About

Bob and I (Diane) have had the good fortune of sailing most of our lives.  Bob’s family still has a 1968 Erikson 35 which is currently in Clayton, NY.  My family progressed from a Chesapeake 32 to an Allied XLII.  Aboard their yawl, my mother and father took an 18 month sabbatical when they were 63 years old.  It was a voyage of a lifetime and served them well in the twilight of their lives.  As they lost their short term memories, the long term memory of their trip lasted essentially until they passed. Inspired by them, Bob and I decided that we too would embark on the “sailing” life in our retirement. However, we went over to the “dark side” and purchased a Jefferson 42 trawler.  (My father would never have approved of a “stink-pot” – sorry Dad!).  We took 2 sabbaticals (Nov ’10 – April ’11 and Jan  – May’14) to motor our boat from Clayton, NY to the Abacos, Bahamas and back.  Since we returned with smiles and an eagerness to set sail again, we were pretty convinced we could live aboard our boat for extended periods of time.  The Great Loop was always a goal of my father’s and we look forward to completing this voyage in his spirit.

As of April 6, 2017, Bob will be a retired CRNA – Anesthetist.  I retired a year ago from a medically based Speech-Language Pathology private practice.  We have 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren.  Leaving our family will be difficult so we are already planning periodic visits every 2 – 3 months.
